Sustainability is deeply rooted in our DNA

UniCredit Group: Who we are

UniCredit Group is a pan-European commercial bank with a unique service offering in Italy, Germany and Central and Eastern Europe. Our goal is to create opportunities for your growth. We believe that by providing the best for all stakeholders, we can unlock the potential of our clients and employees across Europe.

We serve more than 15 million clients worldwide. They are at the heart of everything we do in each of our markets. UniCredit operates in four main regions, focusing on three main areas - corporate clients, individual clients and transactions. This allows us to be close to our clients and to use the Group's footprint to develop and offer the best products in all our markets.

Digitalisation and our commitment to ESG principles are key pillars of our business. They help us deliver quality results for our stakeholders and create a sustainable future for our clients, our employees and the companies in which we operate.

Our simplified business model and all decision-making is guided by UniCredit's values of Integrity, Responsibility and Care. By living these values every day, we have become a true partner to our clients and an engine of social and economic progress in Europe. Today we operate as one bank, leveraging our pan-European presence and the strength of our employees to offer the best to all our stakeholders: our clients, our employees and our communities.

Being a leading bank is not just about having the largest market share, the largest number of clients or innovative and quality products. It also means recognising our own responsibility and impact on the society in which we operate, as well as being sensitive to the needs of our communities.

That is why UniCredit Bank has long supported charity, sport, culture, healthcare and education for children and young people.

In addition to supporting our traditional partners, including the Krtek Oncology Fund, Konto Bariéry, the Na kole dětem fund, the Syner Foundation and the Klokánek Fund for Children at Risk, we support a number of entities in the medical and scientific fields (the Institute of Microbiology, St. Anne's Hospital in Brno and Pneumoned in Bratislava).

In Slovakia, we have been cooperating with the Markiza Foundation for a long time, and thanks to the income tax deduction we have supported the Children with Cancer Foundation, the Children's Sleep Centre in Martin and the Children's Psychiatric Day Hospital at the Children's Psychiatric Clinic in Martin in recent years.

Sport and culture

The Bank traditionally does not forget to support culture, education and sports activities in society. Cooperation with the Financial Distress Counselling Centre or the Italian Cultural Institute is one of our regular activities, and in 2023, we supported, for example, the Veronika Kašáková Foundation, which focuses on the transition of children from children's homes to independent life, or the Eleutheria Foundation, which is committed to the development of cultural heritage in the Czech Republic.

Supporting sport is one of our key activities and in addition to long-standing partners such as RunCzech, Tennis Club Prostějov, Bratislava Open, Sport2Life, Velká Chuchle or Czech Team 96, we also support a number of regional sports clubs focusing on the development of youth sport.

Last but not least, we donate a large part of our charity funds to the cultural sector. Traditionally, we support the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary or cooperate with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Ostrava.

Volunteering and the non-profit sector

As part of our employee volunteering activities, we help communities in our area, for example by regularly participating in UniCredit Kvapke krvi, which we have been organising in cooperation with the National Transfusion Station Slovakia for several years. With UniCredit Leasing employees we help as volunteers in the Palata home for the visually impaired and in Brno our colleagues support financially and as volunteers the Emil Foundation, which helps develop physical activities for people with disabilities.

As part of the UniCredit Group and its "Call for Education" initiative, we have supported a total of 10 non-profit organisations that help children and adolescents under 18 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, particularly in the field of education. In addition, each year we develop our traditional Gift Matching Program, through which the UniCredit Foundation doubles the donations of our employees to non-profit organizations and projects aimed at helping children and adolescents, especially in the field of education.

Education of children and young people

Education is an important area of engagement for the Bank and its employees. In addition to our internal Financial Literacy programme, where our volunteer trainers from among our employees visit primary and secondary schools individually or in cooperation with the Czech Banking Association to help raise the level of education in the area of financial literacy and cyber security, we continue to develop our programme in cooperation with TEACH FOR ALL in the area of supporting the education of children and raising the qualifications of teachers in Slovakia.

For us at UniCredit Bank, being close to society means understanding the real needs where we provide our services. This allows us to effectively carry out traditional banking activities and to implement beneficial and philanthropic initiatives that promote financial and social inclusion, in partnership with institutions and organisations at local and international level.

Social Impact Banking

Social Impact Banking is UniCredit Group's commitment to promoting a fairer and more inclusive society through initiatives that can have a positive impact on society.

UniCredit Bank focuses on three areas in which it undertakes specific activities for individuals, entrepreneurs and companies:

1. MICROPIPES

Microloans are used to finance trades and small businesses, regardless of their legal form. They are mainly intended for start-ups, job-creating projects, women entrepreneurs, innovators and entrepreneurs in less developed areas.

2. FINANCING WITH A SOCIAL IMPACT

We fund projects that have a measurable positive social impact in addition to a positive financial outcome. This includes areas related to health, social care, education, social housing, social tourism and agriculture, but also all other sector-independent projects aimed at employing people who are difficult to employ or even excluded from the labour market.

3. FINANCIAL EDUCATION

Volunteering and financial education is an essential part of Social Impact Banking, in which our bank participates. It aims to help the most vulnerable groups, i.e. children and the elderly, through financial education. It is important that these generations understand finance so that they can meet their financial needs safely and responsibly.

Financial education is focused on:

  • Primary schools 1st-5th grade
  • Primary schools grades 6-9
  • Secondary vocational schools
  • Secondary schools
  • Children's homes
  • Retirement homes

4.     PRESTO LOAN FOR THE MODERNISATION OF A BUILDING WITH ENERGY-EFFICIENT SOLUTIONS

Presto home loan with a very low interest rate designed to invest in energy saving solutions such as installing solar panels, replacing boilers with more energy efficient solutions, reducing the energy consumption of the house.

We are committed to further reducing our direct environmental impact in the energy sector and the exposure of our loan portfolio to companies in sectors that cause significant environmental damage by setting specific targets.
