3D Secure is a modern and secure way to verify card payments online. 3D Secure is available on all types of payment cards and its use is completely free of charge for all card holders via so-called push notifications in the Smart Banking mobile app or in its corporate version Business Smart Banking from UniCredit Bank.

HOW DOES PAYMENT CONFIRMATION WORK?

  1. After entering the card payment in the online shop, you (card holder) will receive a push notification in the mobile app installed on your mobile phone with a request to confirm the payment.
  2. After clicking on the received notification, you will be automatically redirected to the payment confirmation screen in the Smart Banking/Smart Key app.
  3. You will confirm the card payment in the same way as the payment in the Smart Banking/Smart Key app, i.e., with your biometric data (e.g., fingerprint) or PIN code.
  4. After successfully verifying the payment in the mobile banking app, continue to complete the payment and purchase online.

Supported mobile phone iOS 11.0 and higher, Android 5.0 and higher with Google Play.

 

Once you have the app downloaded to your phone, you must first activate it.

Activating Smart Banking or activating Business Smart Banking is then very simple.

 

 

WHAT IF I DO NOT WANT TO USE ANY MOBILE APP?


If you do not want to use one of the selected mobile apps, you need to select a payment method other than card payment when shopping in the online shop.

What is a push notification in the Smart Banking mobile app?

  • This is a notification through which the card holder confirms card payments in online shops, displayed on the card holder's mobile phone or in the Smart Banking app. Please note that notifications are always used only to confirm an outgoing transaction and not to credit money to your account.

 

What if I do not have an account opened with UniCredit Bank, but only a payment card?

  • In this case, you need to download a mobile app allowing you to use the card securely when making payments in online shops.

 

What should I do if I have downloaded the app but do not receive a card payment confirmation notification on my mobile phone?

  • First, make sure you are actually shopping at a merchant that supports 3D Secure. For purchases at merchants that do not support 3D Secure, payments are not confirmed by push notifications in the Smart Banking app.
  • If you have not received a payment confirmation notification in the Smart Banking app, check your internet connection and try to cancel the payment and then repeat it.
  • If you receive no push notification or if you receive the push notification to a phone with a different phone number than you expect, then contact our Infoline at +420 221 210 031 or visit any branch of the bank.

 

What if I pay online with multiple cards (personal/corporate) and only have one mobile phone?

  • If you have the Smart Banking app, you will receive a confirmation notification on your mobile phone, regardless of the payment card used when paying in the online shop.

 

What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?

  • If you have lost your payment card, you should block it immediately so it cannot be used anymore. To block the card, call the Infoline at +420 221 210 031.
  • The Infoline will immediately block the card with you to prevent any abuse and agree on the issuance of a new payment card.

 

What should I do if my phone is lost?

  • If you lose your mobile phone, please contact your mobile operator as usual.
  • We recommend checking that you did not lose your payment card together with your phone. In this case, it is necessary to block the payment card via our Infoline at +420 221 210 031.

 

Are you worried about fraudulent obtaining of payment card data online?

  • When making a 3D Secure card payment with an online merchant, sensitive data from the payment card is only communicated to the bank that confirms your payment.

 

Can I refuse to use 3D Secure on my card?

  • The use of the new 3D Secure for confirming card payments online is mandatory for all payment card holders.
  • If you do not want to use the Smart Banking app to confirm online payments, we recommend that you choose a payment method other than card payment for online shopping.

 

Can I register more than one phone number for one payment card?

  • Unfortunately, you cannot; only one phone number can be registered for one card. On the other hand, you can confirm payments with all your payment cards in one Smart Banking app.

 

How do I know a trusted online merchant?

  • Use the card only on sites that have secure data transfer (SSL protocol) – https:// and a padlock icon will appear in the address bar of the Internet browser.
  • However, the maximum possible security cannot be guaranteed as regards online merchants, so always prefer online shops that support 3D Secure technology. These shops are marked with logos:

      

 

What is the validity of the notification?

  • The notification is valid for 5 minutes from its receipt. In the event that the push notification or related purchase expires, it is necessary for the card holder to repeat the purchase or card payment in the respective online shop.

 

Can I confirm payments using a root/jailbreak device?

  • 3DS Push authentication on a root (and also otherwise "suspicious") device is expressly prohibited by the European Union's Payment Services Directive. Therefore, 3DS payments cannot be confirmed on a root/jailbreak device.

 

What payment card details do I enter when making an online payment?

  • When paying by card with an online merchant, the card number and validity and the security CVC2/CVV2 code (three digits on the back of the card) are mandatory.
  • If the online merchant supports 3D Secure, you will be prompted to confirm your card payment with a notification in the Smart Banking app.

 

Which card can I use to pay online with 3D Secure?

  • As regards our cards, you can use any Visa or Mastercard card. All debit and credit cards issued by UniCredit Bank support the new 3D Secure service.
  • It is possible to pay online using all UniCredit Bank payment cards for which their owner has online payments enabled and a sufficient limit set for online payments. The settings can be easily changed or checked in the internet banking or the Smart Banking mobile app or via our Infoline at +420 221 210 031.

 

Is the payment card active for online payments upon its receipt?

  • For security reasons, all new payment cards are automatically issued as inactive for any use.
  • You can activate your payment card via an ATM by checking your balance or withdrawing money from the ATM and/or you can contact the UniCredit Bank Infoline at +420 221 210 031.
